Summer break is over but let’s hope nice weather will stay with us for some more days. Students float into Groningen again. Some of them for the first time, scurrying around and trying to find the right buildings. Others are coming back, happy to see their friends again, or sad because routine of studying is inevitably on the march and the relaxed times with cocktails at the beach are over.

However, I enjoy to see streets full of young people and feel the vivid and rousing atmosphere in the city. The second week of university will start tomorrow and we from Checks try our best to keep you updated with inspiring, engaging and thought-provoking articles throughout the year!

The problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete.

Today I want to present you a speech. I saw this speech on a seminar last week and what I really liked about this 20-minutes talk by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is how she demonstrates in an honest, self-reflective and basic way how easily we people make up our minds about things and people in a quite narrowed and single-dimensional way. Adichie calls her speech “The danger of a single story” which perfectly summarizes the trap we are inclined to step into from time to time.
